The Pulse of Entertainment: World Artist Jahna Sebastian Releases New Album ‘Revelation Ships’

“It’s my third album, third chapter of a musical book,” said World Music artist Jahna Sebastian about her new album “Revelation Ships” (Multivizion Music). “I’m creating the story as I go…when writing songs and when engineering. This is the information age…reveals history…ancient history.”

Jahna does it all, a prodigy child who grows up perfecting an abundance of talents. Aside from being a singer/songwriter, she is also a pianist, percussionist, arranger, and domra player. Born in Russia as Zhanna Andrianova, and residing in London, Jahna was instrumental in bringing the Hip-Hop culture to her native country Russia.

“Domra is an ancient instrument, it’s in the same family of string instruments as the violin. It has three strings,” Sebastian added when I asked about the instrument.

I remember my great-grandmother taught me about our history (Russian/Indian descent).”

“The history is preserved,” she said about the content in her “Revelation Ships” album.

Songs in the new project consist of that history and they include “Day By Day,” “Choice to Be Free,” “Changes in the Sky,” “How Did We Get Here,” “Takeover,” “Rise,” “Aurora,” “Sun Light,” and “Uletai Outro.”

Jahna Sebastian is always on tour or in the studio. When I asked where her daughter, who plays the drums, is during the touring and recording she said, “My daughter was born in the studio. She grew up in that environment. She loves to sing…and she love the drums.”

Her debut project was named “The Alchemist.” The “Legends of the Map” album was her sophomore project. The “Revelation Ships” album follows and is also part of her Musical Book which is documenting her musical life.

Would you fight for love

Ms. Sebastian played the snippet live on her musical instrument domra. Which is an ancient long – necked instrument of the lute family with a very rich history.  She has been playing this instrument in the professional children’s orchestra from the age of 7 till the age of 15. This is one of many instruments that she plays besides the piano. This musical instrument gained great popularity in the 16th–17th centuries and was used by story-tellers and traveling musicians. The domra has a similar construction to a traditional Neapolitan mandolin and is a member of the lute family. It has a round body with either three or four metal strings and is typically played with a plectrum.

Ms. Sebastian was recently interviewed by SARASTAR Magazine, please see a preview of the interview below:

How did you develop your passion for music?
I have been mastering my craft continuously. I have been singing all my life, starting with traditional folk songs that my great grandmother taught me at age two, as a child I used to memorize all of the songs on on TV in any language, I was singing along to everything on the radio and even by the age of eight some people got really surprised when I would start singing opera in an almost fully developed voice. I learned to read music at the age of 7 while playing traditional instrument domra in the orchestra. I started performing at a very young age. It was very natural for me. I graduated school early at the age of 15 as I did the last two year in one, passed all of the exams and I was the youngest to enter university tat year, where I studied piano, music history, sound engineering, world economy, philosophy, cultural studies, psychology and graduated with a Master’s Degree at the age of 19, as I did a five year course in four years. I launched my own studio Multivizion Music in 2007.

Ms. Sebastian has been hard at work recording music and performing at spot dates.

NEW YORK – Nov. 24, 2022 – Leaders Magazine UK is getting up close and personal with London based singer, sound engineer, philosopher, videographer and multi-instrumentalist Jahna Sebastian! Who is also an accomplished musician who writes, produces, performs, engineers, mixes her own music doing it all from programming instruments to editing. She is the founder of independent record label and music studio Multivizion Music and culture platform Alchemist TV. The brunette beauty interviewed with the international magazine to discuss all things music, future projects and her thoughts on what freedom means to her.

Check out a condensed sneak peak of the interview below:

When did you start doing music?
I have been singing all my life, from the age of seven I played domra in children’s orchestra for eight years. I graduated from the university with A Master’s Degree at the age of 19 just before I turned 20. I also attended a one year Music Production course in London. I always wanted to be the master of music in every way as it is a universal language that can unite people and tell stories.

What is your creative process like?
I do everything myself, I work alone in my studio. It can start with the concept of the song, sometimes I write the lyrics first. I also often create the beat first, starting with the drums and bass line, adding piano, synth or other sounds. I usually compose the melody as I record, especially when I am arranging the backing vocals. I sing many layers of backing vocals. I work in Logic and Pro Tools with various plugins. I play piano and use my keyboard to make music arrangements, program beats and for automation in music production. I also play other instruments. I mix the entire song, I love the part of it when I am adding effects, it can really transform the sound. I film and edit many of my visuals and I style myself. I work on it every day, all the time, coming up with ideas on the spot. I read a lot of books, both nonfiction and fiction. Creativity is a way of life for me.

Many of your songs are about freedom. What does it mean for you?
Freedom is the theme of my life. It is necessary to be creative. It also means responsibility. In the XXI century when there is powerful technology, it is about knowing how to use it for the better of both the people and the planet. In the information age, even though there are so many channels and platforms, it is important to know what is real and use intuition.
